INTAKE / PLACEMENT

Courage House only receives placement of children who have been victims of commercial sexual exploitation and trafficking. Our facilities and programs are intentionally designed to provide a long-term, therapeutic home for females between 11–17 years old, who have this particular history. Some states allow us to keep residents beyond their 18th birthday. Courage House does accept placement from children outside of the geographical location of Courage House. We also accept private placement.

Children who have been sexually exploited and prostituted typically suffer from complex trauma and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) thus requiring very specialized placement and services. Mental health professionals testify that healing from PTSD does not occur in short placements of 4–6 months but require 18–24 months of intensive therapy. Ample time, in a restorative, family environment that provides trauma focused therapy, encourages healthy choices and new patterns of thinking, are vital for these children.

Due to the intensive trauma these children have endured, Courage House requests a minimum of 12 month placement to ensure best results. We recognize that not even 12 months will always fully address the vast mental health needs, but we have seen it provide a stabilizing foundation for their future.

From it’s inception Courage House has been licensed to care for minor children who have been victims of commercial sexual exploitation and trafficking. Our facilities and programs were intentionally designed to provide a long-term, therapeutic home for females ages 11-17 who have this particular history. In June of 2016 Courage Worldwide paused operation of the Northern California home for female minors due to regulatory issues/differences with the State of California. That pause in operation remains to date.

Beginning June 2017, Courage Worldwide is excited to announce that we will be providing resources and case management for the over 18 population. Our intake line in California is 916-316-6029 or email us at intake@courageworldwide.org
