For children who have escaped trafficking, safety isn’t just a priority—it’s a commitment we uphold every day at Courage Worldwide.
According to the U.S. State Department, an estimated 27.6 million people worldwide are victims of human trafficking, a crisis that requires action on many fronts. Four powerful pillars guide the fight against trafficking: Prevention, Protection, Prosecution, and Partnership. Each of these “Four P’s” plays a crucial role in supporting survivors and dismantling the systems that exploit vulnerable people.
At Courage House, the Protection pillar is central to our work. We create a peaceful, secure environment where child survivors feel both physically and emotionally safe. From medical care and trauma-informed counseling to education and long-term support, Courage House provides each young girl with a foundation for healing. Here, for perhaps the first time, survivors feel loved and valued. These elements work together not only to provide immediate security but to empower each girl as she begins to rebuild her life. Protection at Courage House means restoring dignity, hope, and the resources for her to follow her dreams.
But protection isn’t just about physical safety—it also means justice. While our primary focus is supporting each survivor’s journey of healing, we’re also committed to standing beside them in their pursuit of justice. The Prosecution pillar is all about gathering evidence, securing convictions, advocating for anti-trafficking laws, and ensuring survivors’ voices are heard while protecting them from re-traumatization. Through strong partnerships with legal advocates, we fight tirelessly to ensure each survivor’s rights are upheld in court without compromising their safety.
In recent cases, we finally have seen victories as traffickers and perpetrators faced significant consequences—four with life sentences and another with a 30-year sentence! Our partner lawyer has been crucial to these victories, and we currently have six active cases. This work is vital, but it also requires heightened security to protect the safety and well-being of every girl at Courage House, as well as our staff.
We need your support now more than ever. As we continue to provide care, healing, and hope to survivors, we are committed to upgrading our security measures to keep every child safe. We are so grateful for several donors who stepped in to provide the funding for upgraded security on our campuses including a camera system, electric wiring, and a security wall being built at the campus in Moshi. With these security upgrades, we are pursuing expanding our armed security personnel at each campus, the cost of which will significantly increase our budget.
With your partnership, we can continue providing the highest level of protection.
Together, let’s take a stand for justice and protection. Join us in the fight against trafficking.
