From a Courage Worldwide Volunteer: June 2012

As a volunteer and staff member at C2BU, I would like to personally thank all the husbands, children, family members and friends of our volunteers and staff. It is easy to forget the commitment and courage they put forth as the true heroes in the background. Many of them have jumped in to narrow the gap as moms step in to change the world. Some of our husbands are uncles to the girls at Courage House. Others are administrative assistants and photographers at events. Some are waking up at night to pray for girls that need the strength to get through the night. The bravest ones find themselves home alone with the kids, making dinner, carpooling kids to events, and doing bedtime routines, while mom runs to events or speaking engagements or simply spends time with a young girl who needs family.
Our kids eat meals on the run, wait patiently as mom is finishing up one last work email (which turns into 20) and learn what flexibility means and the true definition of commitment. Our kids are asking their friends if they have the “Courage to Be You” and ensuring that they know they were “Created on Purpose for a Purpose.” The topic of sex trafficking is as common to dinner table conversation as “pass the rolls.” We eat, breathe and sleep Courage to Be You. We are driven by our commitment to see lives changed and ensure our kids are equipped, encouraged and empowered to follow their own dreams.
As families we pray, laugh, cry and just do life together. At the end of the day every moment is worth it as you hear the littlest of our volunteers throw her arms around a new girl at Courage House and say, “I love you. Will you be my sister?” Or as a daughter of one of our volunteers writes her mom a note to say, “For every extra hour you work, you are changing the life of a child.” Our families have tirelessly sacrificed time with mom and dad, and in the end it is all worth it as we live out our faith in action and see miracles daily before our eyes with every young girl who calls Courage House home.
Thank you to all of our families and friends; we could not do it without you!
