The Sacramento Premiere of the national documentary, In Plain Sight, at the Crest Theatre was incredible and beyond our wildest dreams! We had over 450 community leaders join us for an elegant reception before the movie. An amazing 950 people were in attendance and packed the beautiful and historic Crest Theatre in downtown Sacramento. This film features 5 cities in the US and 5 organizations who are making a difference in the fight against US sex trafficking. We were honored to have been chosen! Natalie Grant lends her name to this film and is the Co-Producer and Narrator. Award Winning Filmmaker, David Trotter directed and produced this film and he was able to join us on the guest panel that night. The film was informative and hopeful, featuring our work at Courage House, along with our Founder Jenny Williamson and her adoptive daughter and survivor Liz Williamson. Liz’s powerful story was portrayed beginning with her being sold at 6 years old by her biological parents then coming home to Courage House as our first resident at 23 years old. Liz now mentors our young girls and works as our Volunteer Coordinator at Courage Worldwide.
The evening opened with our energetic Emcee, Brenda Price- DJ from Air1 Radio, and then a powerful and passionate welcome by Charlene Carthen (wife of the late Pastor Sherwood Carthen) Co-Founder of BOSS Church who got the crowd chanting “Not in My City!” for the sex trafficking of children in Sacramento. We were honored to also have Chief Sam Somers of the Sacramento Police Department, Undersheriff Jamie Lewis, Sacramento District Attorney, Jan Scully and Dale Hendry- General Manager of The FISH and KFIA who also sponsored this event.
Following the film was an incredible expert panel who discussed the issues of sex trafficking of children in Sacramento. The panel included Stacy Boulware-Eurie, Presiding Judge, Juvenile Court, Superior Court of California, County of Sacramento, David Trotter Filmmaker & Author, In Plain Sight, Mike Rayfield Owner, Solutions Six:8, Formerly Supervisory Special Agent – Violent Crime Squad FBI Sacramento, Paul Durenberger Assistant Chief Deputy District Attorney, Jenny Williamson Founder & CEO, Courage Worldwide, Liz Williamson Survivor, Volunteer Coordinator, Courage Worldwide. And a huge thank you to our sponsors, Morgan Stanley, The FISH/KFIA Radio and Thrivent Financial for helping to make this incredible evening possible!.
